Q&A with Jasmin on Solo Travel
Q: Hi Jasmin! Summer is just around the corner. What’s the last place you traveled to?
A: My last trip was to Iceland in January. Since my birthday falls at the beginning of the year, I started a tradition of traveling alone to mark the occasion. Initially, I opted for warmer destinations to escape the winter chill, but this year, I wanted to see the Northern Lights—so heading north was a must!
Q: What does solo traveling mean to you?
A: Traveling alone is an incredible experience because it forces you to truly listen to yourself. You decide how far you want to go, what you want to explore, and how you navigate new experiences. Each trip pushes you out of your comfort zone a little more, making it as much a journey within as it is to a new place.

I do love when my clothes can be combined or when they can be styled casual for during the day AND classy for going out in the evening
Q: Where was the first place you traveled solo?
A: My first solo experience was a summer camp in England at 13, though I was in a group of other teenagers. That trip planted the seed for my love of solo travel. At 18, I took a month-long trip to Australia, where I joined a language course. The structured mornings made it easier to find my way, and in the afternoons, I had the freedom to explore at my own pace. I loved wandering through new cities, discovering hidden gems, and meeting new people along the way.
Q: Were you nervous about traveling alone?
A: I definitely was at first! But honestly, it’s been so long that I barely remember that feeling. Once you start solo traveling, it becomes second nature.
Q: Do you prepare differently for a solo trip compared to traveling with others?
A: Absolutely. When I travel alone, I plan more extensively beforehand. Having a structure helps me feel grounded and prevents me from staying in my hotel too much if I feel overwhelmed. That said, even with detailed planning, there are always plenty of unplanned moments, and that’s where the real magic of solo travel happens. A lot of people fear being alone, but I’ve learned that if you’re truly connected to yourself, you never feel lonely. Solo travel has helped me appreciate that.
I love the red culotte and shirt combination. It’s perfect for going shopping or a longer sightseeing tour
Q: What are your top three solo travel destinations?
A: 1. Sydney – The beaches, city life, and friendly atmosphere make it a fantastic destination. 2. Iceland in winter – Seeing the Northern Lights was unforgettable. 3. India and Pakistan round-trip – I met some amazing people along the way who joined me for parts of the journey.
Q: Do you have any advice for first-time solo travelers?
A: If it’s your first time, plan your trip thoroughly. Join a guided tour or stay in accommodations like an Airbnb or hostel where you can meet other travelers. That way, if you feel lost or lonely, it’s easy to connect with others. Solo travel can be an incredible experience, but having a support system in place—even a temporary one—makes it even better.
Q: What are your travel essentials?
A: Over the years, my packing style has changed. I used to be able to travel with just a backpack, but now I prefer to bring a bit more! My essentials include:
- A bathing suit or bikini – A must for any trip, even if it’s not a beach destination.
- Books – I love to read, and a good book is perfect for long flights or lazy afternoons.
- A big bag – Because I love fashion and need options for different occasions!
Q: What’s your go-to summer holiday outfit?
A: I don’t have a set “holiday uniform,” but I love putting together different looks for morning and night. Some of my favorites include:
- A bathing suit or bikini with a big straw hat – Perfect for lounging by the pool or at the beach.
- Light long trousers or culottes – Great for city walks or exploring in comfort.
- Summer dresses with legging shorts underneath – Ideal for dinner outings while preventing chafing.
Packing for a summer getaway is all about balancing comfort, practicality, and style—especially when you want to feel great in every outfit.
